Jake Challenor
Director, Billy Blue Music
Jake began his career multitasking as an Assistant Music Director and Radio Host for a regional commercial radio network at the (ripe) young age of sixteen. It was here that Jake was first introduced to the music biz and became addicted to reading ‘The Music Network’ every Monday– still a weekly ritual, ten years on.
When hosting over 20 hours of live radio per week became a little too routine, Jake was in desperate need of the big smoke, and headed to Adelaide (Austereo’s SAFM/5MMM) and then back home to Sydney (Carallis’s 2SM/Hit Music Network) – working in both the music and production departments. He was also coached back into hosting a nationally syndicated radio show, where he interviewed not only Australia’s, but some of the world’s most successful artists.
With a real passion for business, Jake left radio to run his growing PR agency, eventually employing 12 full timers across three cities. The company represented highly regarded and well known professional speakers, authors, CEOs, entertainment events, charities, sporting legends and media personalities.
A few years later Jake received a job offer from his long-time mentor and good friend, (TV and Radio personality) the Late Stan Zemanek. Jake jumped at the opportunity to run Zemanek’s entertainment PR company, spending long hours on the set of Channel Ten’s Beauty & the Beast and the studios of 2UE 954, while doubling as Stan’s publicist.
During this high profile stint working with some of Australia’s most recognisable faces, Jake honed his media skills presenting a TV show on Foxtel – all while scouring MySpace during the early hours of the morning for music’s “the next big thing”.
Initially, Jake discovered and signed Renee Cassar, kick-starting the humble beginnings of Billy Blue Music.
